Laser near rield lens for atoms
نویسندگان
چکیده
We suggest and examine an atom optics focusing element based on the near field arising in the diffraction of laser radiation by an aperture of small size (less than an optical wavelength) in a thin conducting screen. The quasi-re~onant interaction potential of the atom and the near field is found to be close to the potential of the ideal lens. Within the quasi-classical dynamics of atoms we consider the role of chromatic, spherical aberration. Taking the diffraction aberrations into account we find that it is possible to focus atoms into spot with radiu~ 4-7 nm.

Transport of launched cold atoms with a laser guide and pulsed magnetic fields
We propose the novel combination of a laser guide and magnetic lens to transport a cold atomic cloud. We have modelled the loading and guiding of a launched cloud of cold atoms with the optical dipole force. We discuss the optimum strategy for loading typically 30 % of the atoms from a MOT and guiding them vertically through 22 cm. However, although the atoms are tightly confined transversely, ...

In order to interface a cloud of ultracold rubidium atoms with a nanomechanical device, the cloud needs to be transported a macroscopic distance of approximately 30cm. To do this, we make use of focus-tunable lenses from Optotune to electronically control the focus of an infrared laser with wavelenth of 1064nm. The focus of the laser creates a red-detuned dipole trap for the atoms. The heating ...
متن کاملPopulation change in the fine structure levels of cesium atoms using chirped laser
Here, the population transfer between two specific levels of Cesium atomunder the influence of chirped laser source has been numerically investigated. The maingoal of this study is the engineering of the population transfer between the 62S1/2 and 62P1/2levels of Cesium which is corresponding to its D1 transition line using a chirped lasersource. Constructing the system Hamiltonian, as well as t...
متن کاملLaser focusing of atoms: a particle-optics approach
The use of a TEMoi*-mode laser beam has been proposed as a means of focusing an atomic beam to nanometerscale spot diameters. We have analyzed the classical trajectories of atoms through a TEM01*-mode laser beam, using methods developed for particle optics. The differential equation that describes the properties of the firstorder paraxial lens has exactly the same form as the bell-shaped magnet...
متن کاملAtom focusing by far-detuned and resonant standing wave fields: Thin lens regime
Evolving from the initial experiments [1,2], the study of atom focusing using standing wave (SW) light fields has developed into a broad area of research in atom optics. A standing wave field acts as a lens as a result of a spatially-dependent light shift, focusing atoms into a periodic set of lines or dots having widths of the order of tens of nanometers and distanced from one another by λ/2, ...
